Peace, happiness and purpose, these are namely the three most sought after things in the world. If you are in pursuit of a meaningful life as well, then the first step of your journey, is to gain greater self-awareness. Self-awareness is the ability to see your true self, which encompasses your motives, needs, values, attitudes, beliefs etc. and how these are shaped by the socio-cultural context you live in. Sometimes the pursuit of understanding oneself can be quite tedious because let’s face it, we humans are complex beings! Whatever your personality type may be, whether you are a thinker, feeler or doer, the pursuit of self-understanding is never an easy one!

Burnout is a state of exhaustion caused by the pressures and demands of your environment.
Reconnecting with your self doesn’t necessarily have to involve a soul searching hiatus, backpacking around the globe, but it can take place in the simple pleasures of everyday life. Admiring the beauty of nature, relishing an old melody or even banter over coffee can feel like a mini-vacation in the midst of the hustle. A relaxed mind stimulates creative thinking which enables you to find the answers that you are really look for in life. Hence, it’s is safe to say that it doesn’t take much to create a sanctuary for your soul. There are plenty of ways to rejuvenate your mind and get reconnected with yourself, here are other ways you can do so:
Quality over quantity: Take a break from the busyness of life and breathe. As you step away to be alone with your thoughts, ask yourself “how can I make what I am doing more meaningful?” Maybe this means making some necessary changes in your environment or maybe it involves changing the way you do your work. Either ways, it gives your perspective of what really matters and is a powerful way of staying true to your values.
Write it out: Create a personal journal to write about your dreams, fears, memories etc. There is a plethora of evidence which indicates that journaling is an effective tool to overcome difficult emotions and can help you find solutions for yourself. If you don’t have a habit of doing so, this would be an opportune moment to begin.
Meet a therapist: Find a therapist whom you can trust and share your story with them. Counsellors are professionally trained in the area of helping people grow in their self-awareness. Therapy provides you freedom to be yourself, zero judgement and objectivity. These factors can inspire you to overcome any hurdles that are prevent you from realizing your fullest potential.
