PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS

“TO THIS END THE GREATEST ASSET OF A SCHOOL IS THE

PERSONALITY OF THE TEACHER”

Personality development can be defined as the development of behaviors in an organized pattern and also human attitudes which makes an individual distinctive from others. Personality development happens because of the ongoing interaction which takes place between individuals taking into account their temperament and character, as well as their surrounding environment. Teachers are considered pioneers towards shaping the lives of all students who interact with them for obtaining knowledge.

They play an important role in building good character in students.

A few success mantras of personality development include:

Communication Skills:

Being a teacher, communication and presentation skills are critical in teaching. Communication is key, when interacting with the students parents from different classes and fields. A teacher has to understand the parent’s needs and then communicate with them on a horizontal platform. It needs to be effectively satisfactory and meaningful. It should neither be confusing or incomplete nor suppressive.

Trustworthiness:

As said earlier, teacher and parental relationship with effective communication provides the needed guidance towards a child’s growth and development on a timely basis. The teacher enhances the faith and trustworthiness of the parents towards the institution or school.

Morales:

Teachers are professionals and a vital part of the education system. Their level of morale has a direct influence on student achievement and learning. Parents come with their expectations for their children and unload them onto the teacher, expecting them to meet those demands. A lot of times due to the size of the faculty in schools, a lot of teachers often feel invisible and underappreciated. These teachers often become less productive. To resolve this, the school management needs to have regular feedback sessions with teachers, ensure that they have space to vent to their frustrations. Teachers and students perform better when they feel someone cares for them. The school management needs to do their part in making the teacher’s job enjoyable. In doing so , the entire school’s morale is increased.

Motivation:

Mainly, appropriate and planned teaching behavior is the key to motivate students and every teacher has to keep motivating their pupil to succeed in academics and in life. A teacher in his/her profession can’t depend on other external sources to support and stand by him. He needs to be self-motivated.

Body language skills:

Educators have to be extremely aware of the power of body language and consistently work in polishing body language skills at all times. Projection plays a vital role in classroom authority. Teachers who master body language skills have a firm hand in the classroom and give the students confidence that they are approachable and aware of the solutions to many problems. This will include body posture, eye contact, facial expressions, and voice modulation. Constantly checking your body language will ensure that you create a positive force field for the children to grow and learn. Something as simple as smiling, leaning, nodding, and talking with your palms open will help you project an approachable aura.

Here are 5 simple yet crucial tips for teachers to keep in mind while teaching:

· Confidence – It is the key to overall development of any child and teachers should always keep in mind that their focus should be increasing confidence by creating interactive group activities in class.

· Authenticity – Teachers should not discourage the originality in the students as they will flourish more if they will be themselves.

· Dressing sense – Teachers should groom the students and make them aware of how to make a desirable impression.

· Body-language – It is just as important as verbal language. Everything including the way people walk, sit, talk or eat leaves an impact, so teachers should correct the body language of the students if they are not doing it properly.

· Opinionated thinking – Teachers should inculcate and encourage opinion formation in students by asking them about their opinion on various topics in class.
