Characteristics of an Efficient Worker - Part 2

When the term efficient worker comes in our mind there are a mix of attributes that stand out. For example: we think of the One who honours time, one who is honest, one who appreciates suggestions and much more. We cannot standardize these qualities as employees are differently abled, however, tapping into these qualities and enabling them is the more important factor. These qualities are not hard to put into practice, however for each characteristic to remain, one has to be aware and apply it conscientiously. Some of these characteristics might be there in an individual from childhood because it was spoken about in the home and maybe even practised in the home. If a characteristic or habit needs to be there as a long-term quality then it has to be worked on continuously. It has to be given attention and kept in mind for the habit to set. Remember there is no easy way for habits to set in unless we are willing to be diligent and persistent.

As the quote goes, “We first make our habits, then our habits make us” - John Dryden. To be an efficient worker, one has to work at it, it doesn’t come automatically. Sometimes, it will take years for it to get into your everyday activity. Over time and with persistence, it will bear fruit.

Like a tree that needs fertilizer, water, and sunlight, we also need these practices to be healthy. All these are external factors, these can’t have its effect unless the heart is ready to imbibe these into daily routine. Without one of these qualities there will be a deficiency in the growth. It might not show immediately but over time it will show in the growth of the tree. Each of these characteristics adds its own flavour to the growth of the tree. We can’t underestimate the value of any of these qualities. Time and fruit will tell the importance of these qualities and its influence on the growth of the tree.

Just as these three factors are important for the functioning of the plant or for the plant to be healthy, like wise habits over time will produce many results.

When the habit is first put into action, there may not be immediate results however when it is given importance and diligently followed, there will be much fruit. In the following article we will discuss the different characteristics that will help a worker to be efficient in the work place that he or she is involved with.

When we talk of characteristics, these are the traits that will be discussed in the following articles: "Discipline, willing to listen, hard work vs. smart work, time management, teachability"
